Somebody's Hero by Jamie O'Neal
I guess you could say that for my mom and I, that this is "our song". It came out in 2005, the same year I got married. The lyrics just fit so well with what was going on, especially the 2nd verse.
"She didn't get a check every week like a nine-to fiver
But she's been a waiter, and a cook and a taxi driver
For twenty years, there at home, until the day her girl was grown
Giving all her love to her was her life's ambition
But now her baby's movin' on, and she'll soon be missin' her
But not today, those are tears of joy runnin' down her face
She's somebody's hero
A hero to her daughter in her wedding dress
She gave her wings to leave the nest
It hurts to let her baby go down the aisle she walks right by
Looks back into her mother's eyes
And that smile lets her know oh oh oh
She's somebody's hero"
My mom was a stay at home mom, so she didn't get that paycheck but she had a full time job as being my mom. We were lucky enough to get to meet Jamie last year in Nashville and told her how much the song meant to us.
26 Cents by The Wilkinsons
The song is about a mom giving her kid 26 cents when they move away so that they can call home when they get homesick. Of course this song was out before everybody had cell phones, so it probably would be a bit different if the song was written now.
You're Gonna Miss This by Trace Adkins
The message of the song is that you want to move on to the next stage in life whether it be moving away from home, getting married, having babies or kids to be grown up and move away but when you look back you will miss it when that period of time is gone.
The Best Day by Taylor Swift
The fact that Taylor eventually made a video for this song featuring old videos of her and her mom makes the song even more special.
In My Daughter's Eyes by Martina McBride
My mom and I had the pleasure of seeing Martina in concert a few years back. Pretty sure we were both fairly teary-eyed during her performance of this song!
Don't Forget To Remember Me by Carrie Underwood
Another song about the kid leaving home and adjusting to a new life away from their parents.
Mama Don't Forget to Pray For Me by Diamond Rio
Honestly, I don't really know this song all that well. I just happened to have it in my music somewhere and it fit with the theme of the CD!
Mama's Song by Carrie Underwood
A song from daughter to mother telling the mom that she's found the love of her life and not to worry that it's all ok. The timing of the song's release to radio happened to coincide nicely with Carrie's marriage to Mike Fisher too!
American Honey by Lady Antebellum
If there's a way to throw in a Lady A song, I will! With this song being about thinking back to the simple days of growing up, it works!
Mama, I'm Alright by Miranda Lambert
Another song from daughter to mother, but this time telling her things are ok with life in general and "I'm strong just like you'd pray I'd be"
Baby Girl by Sugarland
So maybe I never was so broke that I had to borrow money from my mom and dad all the time to get by and I'm not "so rich that it ain't funny", but I am their 'baby girl'! Well, actually I'm the only child, but it still fits!
Never Grow Up by Taylor Swift
Well, I guess it's a good thing I didn't make the CD last year, because this song didn't come out till Taylor released her latest CD in the fall. It's a great song about first, the mom wanting her baby to stay little forever and never grow up. In the end it is child/young adult wishing they hadn't grown up and could go back when things were simple.
Suuuuuper sweet idea and I bet your mom loved it!
